C…is for color | September 27, 2014

C… is for Color, California and Celebrations.   We are  fortunate over here in California to experience an extended summer that often allows us to  have nice weather and sunshine until October.  I know we just celebrated the beginning of fall but we are not quite ready to let go of our favorite summertime colors.   Flower varieties come and go throughout the season but even in the midst of fall, there are so many ways you can introduce bright happy colors into your celebrations whether it be a dinner party, birthday bash or a bridal shower.  So, we gathered up 3 of our favorite easy and simple ways to infuse a bit of color and pep into your entertaining decor.

1.  Dress up your drinks

These days there are so many unique drink recipes and an abundance of ways to display your drink station or bar.  A simple and eye catching way of showcasing the options is offering a variety of tasty drinks in varying colors along with colorful glassware arranged light to dark.  This can be done easily with alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages.  To add an extra special touch for your guests, display bowls of garnish options that pair well with the flavor of drinks offered. Our drink of choice over here at Type A Society is blood orange soda with Rosemary sprigs.  We are often found at Trader Joe’s buying this stuff by the dozen!

2.  Add a pop of color to your place settings

Ribbon, herbs, fruits and  watercolor name cards are just a few things you can add to spruce up your table.  You do not have to have a big budget to make a big statement, all you need is a bit of creativity and some shears to forage your backyard for that perfect napkin treatment.   Go with the season and use whatever you might find locally or in your own backyard such as cherry blossoms for spring,  kumquats for summer, apples for fall and Rosemary for winter to use on your place setting.  When in doubt, keep it simple as simple things often make the most beautiful statement.

3.  Colorful blooms

Well, we are partial to flowers and lots of them.  Once you group them together it becomes a statement piece of your table or party.   How is it that flowers just make everything better?  I, for one always feel like my party is complete when I bring in the buckets and make even the most simple loose arrangement.   Even if you have a table dressed entirely of white with white chairs and white linen, just the pop of color from a table featuring a row of small vases of flowers of a single color can be a show stopper.   For a more “freshly cut”  garden look, we like to use old clay pots with a loose arrangement of ranunculus, cherry blossoms or even dahlias for fall with foraged greens and citrus.
